Newcomers: get support

New to Canada and from East Africa? You don’t have to figure everything out alone.

Settling into a new country takes time. VPEACE can connect you with a volunteer who listens to your needs, helps you find useful information, and supports you as you get to know your new community.

How we can help

We may be able to help you

  • Understand everyday life in your new community
  • Prepare for appointments and understand forms or letters
  • Find services, programs, and community groups
  • Access language support, depending on availability
  • Meet people and build a sense of belonging

Who can ask for support

Our program supports newcomers from East African countries who have been resettled in Canada as refugees.

Free of charge

Support is offered at no cost to participants.

In your language, when possible

We try to match you with a volunteer who speaks your language. Language support depends on volunteer availability.
